The rosters for the 16th annual SirusXM All-Star Futures Game were announced this afternoon. The game will be played on Sunday, July 13 at Target Field in Minneapolis at 5 p.m. EST and it can be seen live on MLB Network.

Headlining the US roster is second overall pick from the 2013 draft, Cubs third basemen Kris Bryant. Bryant tore up double-A pitching this season to a tune of a .355, 22, 58 line with a 1.160 OPS before being promoted to triple-A Iowa, where he is batting only .222 but has four home runs in five games. Bryant was considered by many to be the best overall bat in the draft class, and so far he has proven them correct as he is flying through the Cubs’ system and should likely be in Wrigleyville full-time in 2015.

Joey Gallo of the Texas Rangers is more of an interesting prospect. Gallo, a third basemen who was drafted out of the Las Vegas high school ranks in 2012, always had plus-plus power. How much that would play, however, would be determined on how his hit tool developed. Gallo hit 40 homers a year ago in the South Atlantic League, but only hit .251 and struck out 172 times. This year, however is a different story.

While Gallo is still striking out a good amount (87 times in 236 at-bats, which is still about 37%,) his walk rate has spiked significantly, as he has 60 walks already this year compared to 50 in 2013. He is also hitting .309 with 64 RBI and a .447 OBP while also leading the minors with 27 home runs. Gallo’s power will definitely play up in Arlington, and Rangers fans should be excited about his future.
